Павел Суровой Song of Solomon 8 english
Nursed at my mother's breast,
And leading you out in the open,
I'd kiss you free on a breath.
I would lead you and gently bring you
To my mother's house of light,
Where wisdom-shaped my early days
And love was hidden in plain sight.
I would give you spiced wine to drink,
Pomegranates crimson flow,
Your hand beneath my resting head,
Your arm around me soft and slow.
O daughters of Jerusalem, swear again I call to you:
Do not awaken love too soon, let it rise when it is due.
Who is this from the desert coming,
Leaning on her beloved's arm?
Beneath the apple tree I woke you
Where your mother bore you through harm.
Set me as a seal upon your heart,
As a sign upon your hand,
For love is strong as death itself,
Unyielding as the grave's command.
Its flame is fire, a living blaze,
A spark of heaven's own bright art;
Great waters cannot quench its fire,
Nor rivers drown a faithful heart.
And if one gave all wealth he owned
To buy this love so deep and true,
He would be scorned and turned away,
For love is not for gold to woo.
We have a little sister still,
Too young for love's unfolding grace;
What shall we do for her that day
When suitors come to seek her face?
If she is a wall, we'll crown her strong
With silver towers shining bright;
If she's a door, we'll guard her well
With cedar boards in strength and might.
I am a wall, and firm my sty,
My breasts like towers command and high;
Within his gaze I found my peace,
And rest lives in my heart thereby.
Solomon once had a vineyard fair
In lands where golden sunlight lay;
He gave it to keepers of the vines,
Each bringing fruit in due-where.
A thousand coins belong to you,
O Sulaman, for what is thine,
And two hundred to those who tend,
But my own vineyard, it is mine.
O you who dwell among the gardens,
Your voice the waiting friends would hear,
Let me as well receive its sweetness,
Let your gentle sound draw near.
Taste my love and come to me,
Like a gazelle in swift delight,
Like a young stag upon the hills,
Where fragrant herbs breathe day and night.
