From my journal
It is half-past eight in the evening. I am sitting at the table
in front of a turned-on monitor, writing these lines. Today
was a rather cold day with mixed clouds and a cold north wind.
On my way home from a walk,I even buttoned up my blue denim jacket
because of that cold north wind (the dry street was illuminated
by the sun breaking through the clouds).Earlier in the day,
I went to the Pyaterochka store behind the bus stop,
taking the remaining 700 rubles, and then went for a walk.
When I was near the Admiral shopping center, I noticed two girls
on the other side of the main street—one very short and thin,
and the other of average or above-average height. The one on the
right was wearing blue jeans and a short, dark-brown jacket.
They crossed the street at the pedestrian crossing to my side,
and I walked behind them for a while. At first, I thought the tall
girl in jeans was a salesgirl from the pharmacy, but
then I thought this one had a lighter shade of straight,
medium-length brown hair.A while later, the girl about
180 cm tall half-turned, and I saw that it was the beauty
from the pharmacy. She was wearing myopia glasses(she hadn't been
wearing glasses before). From the waist down, she looked like
an athlete:strong, long legs and a big butt in faded blue jeans.
I quickly overtook them and walked briskly toward the Crystal
and beyond(this side of the street was paved with tiles).
I didn't buy anything while out for a walk today.
I got home at four o'clock after strolling through the town center.
Today I watched videos about Moscow and worked on editing
"The Anthropological Forums" again (I added the lines
that photos of the measured individuals are needed
to verify their nationality(Russians,"mestizos",non Russians);
for an article or book to be useful, one needs the measurements
of each subject along with their photos). Now I'm watching a video
of a walk through Moscow on a summer evening.I used to walk around
Moscow too, but I used to study the people I saw; these passersby,
however, just walk along without a care for anyone around them.
They don't read books, don't speak English, have no interest in
physical anthropology and genetics, and don't publish their work
on proza.ru or stihi.ru.They earn 500-1,000 dollars and think
they're better off than I am (or would think so,if they knew me).
None of these passersby have ever even dreamed of a world where
everyone is wealthy;for them, the existence of bosses and
subordinates, of the rich and the poor, is the natural order
of things-just like the horrific prisons, hospitals, and schools
where students(children) have to stand up when a teacher enters
the classroom, and so on.I live in a country of lowlifes...
