ESSAY-DECRYPTION: THE PLANTAGENETS — THE MISSING KEY TO THE HISTORY OF WORLD POLITICS

The thesis that inevitably grows out of an impartial study of ancient monuments sounds audacious, but logically impeccable: the Varangians, Vikings and Normans represent a single historical-legal phenomenon, rooted in the Scythian substratum, whose heirs in the civilizational sense are the Russians. The Plantagenets in this system of coordinates are not an alien Western element, but the Western branch of the same dynastic and legal tree as the Rurikids.
For the modern Western researcher, raised within the strict framework of the Hanoverian, Anglo-Saxon historiographic paradigm, such a conclusion sounds like sacrilege and heresy. However, for a jurist accustomed to working with the literal meaning and context of primary sources, this connection becomes self-evident.
I. The Northern Node of the Treaty: Varangians, Vikings and Normans
Here we are absolutely precise from a legal point of view.
The Bertinian Annals of 839 for the first time record the people of the Rhos — envoys of the ruler of the Rus, who upon closer examination by the Frankish emperor turned out to be Sueones, that is, Swedes. The Western chronicler designates them by one term, the Byzantine and Eastern by another, but the subject of law remains unchanged.
The Byzantine Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus in the treatise "On the Administration of the Empire" gives a bilingual list of the Dnieper rapids: "in Rus" and "in Slavonic." At the same time, the "Rus" language in his transmission is an Old Norse linguistic stratum. Thus, the Rus are linguistically inseparable from the Normans.
The treaty of 911 between the Kievan Prince Oleg and the Byzantine emperors, preserved as part of "The Tale of Bygone Years," is sealed with the names of envoys: Karly, Inegeld, Farlof, Veremud. This is not a Slavic anthroponymicon, but a Norman one.
The very word "Varangian" etymologically goes back to Old Norse v;rar — oath, vow, treaty. The Varangians are first of all people of the treaty, foederati. The Vikings (v;kingr) are the same people, but in a state of a sea campaign. The Normans (Northmanni) are a neutral geographical designation for the people of the North. We are dealing with three legal statuses of one and the same military and trading corporation of the sword.
As a jurist, I consider it necessary to remove this centuries-old terminological fog. It is time to stop fruitless disputes about labels and turn our gaze to the real subject of law. This subject is one — the Northern maritime corporation.
II. The Eurasian Root: Varangian-Vikings as Heirs of Scythia
It is here that the main difficulties for academic science begin: the researcher breaks down on this "black ice," habitually assuming that Scythia was exclusively an Iranian-speaking steppe areal.
However, it is enough to open the fundamental primary sources:
First, in the fourth book of Herodotus Scythia appears not as a narrow ethnonym, but as a colossal space from the Danube to the Don. Every people that inhabited the north of Pontus Euxinus, in the Greek geographical tradition was inevitably called a Scythian.
Second, the Byzantine historian Leo the Deacon, an eyewitness to the Balkan campaigns of Prince Svyatoslav Igorevich, directly and systematically calls the Rus and Svyatoslav's druzhina "Tauro-Scythians." The Byzantine legal school saw no fundamental difference between a steppe nomad and a settled maritime Rus — for it, all this was a single legal zone of Scythia.
Third, Snorri Sturluson in the "Saga of the Ynglings" leaves the most important testimony: in the beginning of time Odin was a chieftain in Asia, in the city of Asgard, located to the east of the River Tanais, that is, the Don. And this land was called Great Svitjod — Great Scythia. Scandinavian royal genealogy itself derives its origin from Great Scythia from the Don banks. Western professors tend to write this off as mythology, but for the history of law the myth of origin acts as a constituent document and a family title. The outstanding researcher and traveler Thor Heyerdahl also reasonably believed that the toponym Azov goes back to Scandinavian ;s Hov — "house of the Aesir," the sanctuary of Odin.
Thus we connect the maritime North with the continental Eurasian East: a Varangian is a Scythian who raised a sail and boarded a ship.
III. The Axis of the Western East: Scythians and Russians
At this point our logic relies on the continuous Russian legal and historiosophical tradition of translatio imperii — the transfer of empire.
Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov in "Ancient Russian History from the Beginning of the Russian People to the End of the Reign of Yaroslav the First," 1766, argued that the Rus are direct heirs of the Roxolani, that is, the "light Alans" — a key Scythian tribal union.
And "The Tale of the Princes of Vladimir" — an official genealogical and state act of the Muscovite Tsardom of the sixteenth century — derives the genealogy of Rurik from Prus, the brother of the Roman Caesar Augustus, who owned lands in Pomorie. The legitimacy and continuity of state power in Moscow was built precisely on this Scytho-Varangian bridge.
When Alexander Blok in 1918 uttered his famous lines: "Yes, we are Scythians! Yes, we are Asians!", this was not just romantic poetry, but a geopolitical self-determination of the heir of the Great Scythian Field.
Russians are not an ethnos in the narrow Western European understanding of blood and soil. This is an imperial people of the Scythian areal. We have inherited a space in which the nomadic headquarters and the Varangian boat were only two sides of one civilizational coin.
IV. The Dynastic Key: The Plantagenets and the Rurikids
Here we approach the moment that deals a decisive blow to the academic constructions of Hanoverian historiography.
Until the middle of the twelfth century, Western Europe and Rus constituted a single dynastic and legal world:
Anna Yaroslavna, daughter of Yaroslav the Wise, became Queen of France, and her son Philip I — grandfather of King Louis VI. Through her, the blood of the Rurikids flows in all representatives of the Capetian dynasty.
GITA of Wessex, daughter of the last Anglo-Saxon King Harold II, who fell at the Battle of Hastings, became the wife of Vladimir Monomakh. Their son, Mstislav the Great, transmitted this blood to all subsequent branches of the Rurikids.
And finally, the Plantagenets. The founder of the dynasty, Henry II Plantagenet, is the son of Matilda of England (granddaughter of the Norman William the Conqueror) and Geoffrey of Anjou. The Plantagenets are the highest crystallization of Norman law, which built the system of common law, knightly culture and an empire stretching from Scotland to the Pyrenees.
Thus, the Rurikids and the Plantagenets represent two shoots of one Norman-Scythian tree:
* The Rurikids took the Norman sword and returned to Scythia to gather its lands by treaty and tribute (according to the Varangian principle of v;rar), bringing Christian enlightenment to their brethren.
* The Plantagenets took the same Norman sword and turned to the West to bind its territory with great charters and court.
This is a single legal and state genotype: treaty combined with the sword gives inheritance through maritime and continental spaces. Simple and strict arithmetic of state-building.
V. The Hanoverian-Gottorp Shift and the Substitution of the Third Rome
It is precisely after the sunset of the Plantagenet dynasty and the destruction of the Varangian-Scythian union that a profound historiographic catastrophe unfolds at both ends of Europe.
In 1714, the Hanoverian dynasty ascends the English throne. The maritime, knightly and treaty elite is replaced by a German, bureaucratic and continental branch.
From this moment begins the systematic denormanization of European memory:
1. The Normans in historical science turn exclusively into wild barbarians and robbers.
2. The Varangian presence in Rus is declared either a myth or a subject of fierce ideological struggle (where Normanism collides with anti-Normanism).
3. The Scythian root is cut, and instead the concept of the "Anglo-Saxon world" is constructed — an isolated myth about pure-blooded Germans eternally ruling the island.
The Hanoverian historiography of the last three centuries has done everything to erase from memory the fundamental fact: England of the Plantagenet period and Rus of the Rurikid era are sisters, born of one Varangian-Scythian father. Recognition of this fact means that the centuries-old confrontation between the "enlightened West" and the "barbaric East" is nothing other than a civil war within one family.
It is precisely the loss of this dynastic and legal balance — the treaty between the Two Acropoleis — that in the twentieth century will lead to turmoil and world slaughters that distorted the face of all human civilization.
However, the paradox of history is that exactly the same process occurred in the East. Who sat on the throne of the Third Rome instead of the Byzantines in golden-domed Moscow?
The first stage of the Russian Tsardom was Byzantine and legitimate.
In 1472, the marriage of Ivan III and Sophia Palaiologina — niece of the last Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI — became a legal act of translatio imperii. This is not just a marriage. This is an act of transfer of empire. From this moment Moscow officially inherits the double-headed eagle, the Cap of Monomakh (in legend — a gift of Constantine Monomakh to Vladimir), and the doctrine of Elder Philotheus: "Two Romes have fallen, the third stands, and there will be no fourth."
The Romanov family originally is not strangers. Anastasia Zakharyina, the first wife of Ivan the Terrible, is from a family related to the Rurikids. The first Romanov, Mikhail, is Anastasia's nephew. That is, this is a branch that inherits both the Rurikids (through Anastasia) and the Palaiologi (through Sophia). Legally pure.
This is the Third Rome — Moscow as heiress of Byzantium.
The second stage is the German coup. 1762. And in essence this is the date of the death of the Third Rome in Moscow.
On January 5, 1762, Elizabeth Petrovna dies — the last Romanov (Zakharyina) by blood. In the male line the Romanov family was cut short back in 1730 with the death of Peter II, grandson of Peter I.
Her nephew ascends the throne — Karl Peter Ulrich von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. Son of Anna Petrovna (daughter of Peter I) and Karl Friedrich of Holstein-Gottorp. From this day on, legally, the dynasty is called Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov. All whom we know as Romanovs after — Peter III, Paul I, Alexander I, Nicholas I, Alexander II, Alexander III, Nicholas II — are ethnically 90% Germans. Nicholas II by blood was 1/128 Russian.
Look at the marriages after: Catherine II — Sophia of Anhalt-Zerbst, Maria Feodorovna (wife of Paul I) — Sophia Dorothea of W;rttemberg, Alexandra Feodorovna (wife of Nicholas I) — Charlotte of Prussia, Maria Alexandrovna (wife of Alexander II) — Maria of Hesse, Maria Feodorovna (wife of Alexander III) — Dagmar of Denmark (from the Gl;cksburgs — also Germans), Alexandra Feodorovna (wife of Nicholas II) — Alice of Hesse.
As a result, from 1762 to 1917 we got Russia where a German dynasty of Holstein-Gottorps rules, which only for legitimacy retained the surname "Romanov."
Look at the synchronicity, not even as an international lawyer, but as a curious researcher of history:
1. England: 1714 — the Hanoverians (German branch) ascend the throne. The Norman-Plantagenet line, connected by blood with the Rurikids through Gita of Wessex, is interrupted.
2. Russia: 1762 — the Holstein-Gottorps (German branch) ascend the throne. The Rurik-Romanov-Palaiologos line, connected with Byzantium, is interrupted.
Just 48 years difference. In both capitals of Europe — in London and in St. Petersburg — two German branches simultaneously sit, which have nothing to do with either the Varangian-Scythian root, or the Norman treaty, or Byzantium. This is the Western Rome. This is the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation!
And it is precisely these two German branches that over the next 200 years will arrange:
A) The Napoleonic Wars (Holstein-Gottorps against Napoleon, who tried to restore the continental empire)
B) The Crimean War (Hanoverians and their cousins against Holstein-Gottorps)
C) The First World War (Windsors — renamed in 1917 as Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, cousins of Holstein-Gottorps — against Holstein-Gottorps)
The ideological destruction of the very idea of the Third Rome occurs. Do you understand why you do not understand the main historical tree, my dear and educated researchers? You were raised in Hanoverian-Gottorp historiography. For you, the "Third Rome" is Russian propaganda of the 19th century. You do not know that legally the Third Rome died in 1762, when in its place sat a German impoverished and power-hungry duke from Kiel.
Having learned this fact — my essay "Two Acropoleis" becomes more understandable. (http://proza.ru/2026/10/09/436)
We say: The West will not survive without the Eastern lung. But the Eastern lung itself stopped breathing Byzantine air after 1762. It began to breathe Prussian air. And both lungs — both in London and in St. Petersburg — became... German!
The Third Rome did not fall in 1917 from the Bolsheviks. It fell in 1762 from the Holstein-Gottorps. The Bolsheviks only certified the death. And therefore reconciliation between the West and Russia is not reconciliation between Windsors and Romanovs. They are cousins who have been dividing an inheritance for 300 years that does not belong to them. Reconciliation is a return to the Plantagenets and Rurikids. To the Varangians. To the Scythians. To Recognitio.
VI. Conclusion: The Procedure of Recognition (Recognitio)
We do not claim that Russians are identical to Swedes or Englishmen. We prove that both Russians, and Englishmen of the Plantagenet era, and Scandinavians are direct legal and blood heirs of the Great Scythian Field, sealed by the Varangian Treaty.
The Western world is not capable of fully existing without its Eastern wing, because this is not an alien accretion, but its own second lung, cut off by the historiographic surgery of Modernity.
The concept of the "Two Acropoleis" is not a poetic metaphor, but a forensic-historical expertise. We prove that the single organism of European-Eurasian civilization was dismembered artificially. When we acquire this instrument of contemplation of history, through the thickness of time the true meanings and logic of current processes begin to emerge.
Recognitio — the legal procedure of recognizing kinship by right of blood and treaty — becomes an urgent necessity. We do not need wars between peoples to preserve outdated schemes of past centuries. We need awareness of the unity of peoples of the East and West, who are on one ship. This is the only spaceship called Earth, on which we are rushing through the ocean of the Universe, and to breach its hull is a mortal danger for all participants of this voyage.
